MOONLIGHT OVER MANHATTAN
MOONLIGHT OVER MANHATTAN:

MOONLIGHT OVER MANHATTAN by Sarah Morgan. Harlequin Books (www.HQNBooks.com), 2017, 377 pp., $7.99. ISBN 13:978-0-373-80403-0. Click here to purchase.

I truly struggled trying to decide if I should review this book. It falls into the bodice-ripping selections I have so often stated are just not for me and, well, my personal values.

In the end, I decided to do the review. Why? Because it’s a great story and another example of a great book that could be just as great (if not better) without the bodice stuff. And it makes me mad, because I would have to miss an otherwise great story.

The characters are bright and lively and complex. Dog walker Harriet Knight and Dr. Ethan Black are engaging people who care for each other, but don’t want to at first. The novel features Christmas in a Manhattan setting. What more could you ask for? Christmas books abound, but it’s really hard to find one with a solid, engaging storyline. I quickly flipped the pages with my not-to-my-liking parts and honestly could not put the book down. And yes, I still “got it.”

This is my first Sarah Morgan book and she is obviously very talented. And many will say, well, get over it, the content just wasn’t your cup of tea. But the book could easily stand on its own and have wider appeal and the effect could be just as great with less graphic material and the opportunity to use your imagination:the old mystery tactic! Hey, nothing beats an old-fashioned romance.

If future books could be tamed down, I’d love to see more from Sarah. MOONLIGHT OVER MANHATTAN is a TV or movie script just waiting to happen. Debra Jackson-Andrews
