END OF THE WORLD portrays a sad America, in the land of two people who love each other to death, named Eleanor and Sam. However, Eleanor realizes there are more horrors than she can count, including a group of secret police who steal people away from existence, an imminent nuclear missile attack on New York City, the utter impossibility of paying off insanely burdening student loans, the lack of a living wage, the lies of greedy corporations, and the hopeful emergence, in the midst of these terrors and disasters, of angels … and true love despite the vanity. “Vanity of vanities; all is vanity,” is a line from the Bible’s Old Testament Book of Ecclesiastes. It’s what this novel/testimony is all about. But the insights are rare and true, so the book has its own way of being enjoyable to read.
